Mother's Men 02:04
Stars will pass the mother’s sun Saw the moon, felt the run Found a time, then it lost Never knew, never crossed The open space, the open field See them light, watch them yield Now they grow into a new With confidence and solitude So long it is a time to grow For all peace, and all hope For mother’s men, so tall and wise Tell them all, take their eyes Far from when this all began But god damn the blowin’ wind I thought I knew about you lord But I was wrong, I was wrong
2.
Faster 02:39
Flying faster than I ever have While the wind blows by my back Never seeing the horizon Oh blue water in my brain Saw how this affected my dad Lower path be up ahead And if this goes onward left I will never be the same Lovely winter in my song Follow every word I know And if I forget some I just hope he lives for a long time Hazy film unraveled now Lens flares in each negative Light peaking over my shoulder I will never remember this I just want to find the truth Memories always find me Somewhere in my head
3.
So I’ll tell a story of a star, that came back home to us. Far away did she go, as the wind blew by, and told us all that we know. So I’ll tell the story, of our sun. Oh, let me know if you hear. See if I were a ghost, flying far away, I’d never seem to fear, seem to know why.
4.
Waterhole 04:24
Take me on with all that you have, my love. I’m already onward tomorrow, and why; I found a waterhole in the summer, and went for it all with my shirt off. I’m under the earth. For now, I’ll just lay here looking up at the ceiling fan, blowing around and around, and it’s my head. So maybe I’m curious, I guess, but I’m not sure how I’ll manage. And maybe, I’m going to fly away.
5.
Take all I have, for I’m not ready. And I’m going to fly, forever baby. I’ll be anew, but burnt at last. Watch me go, watch me pass. I’m going to die, and never know it. Turn into ash, but never show it. So bring me my light, and wait for a long, time is cold, time will pass. Father moon, don’t forget me. Mother sun, don’t weep for me. For I’ll never die; I’ll be memory. Blood on my hands, love for you.
6.
Before the night I saw you there In all of your might How could I compare, you there If I were here This time in the evening I would feel love I would feel love I know I was born I know I’m free Before the night I saw you there Dark falling rain Melts away in the morning And all of the wind Blows far from the sun, to find A time once renewed Cold ash erupting We were so young But never ending
7.
If I’m ever to the end. If I’ll ever die again. Will you always be my friend? For always? See I never thought I’d die this way. Burning up in an endless flame. By myself I see the shadow again, watching over me. See I never knew I’d be in second place. I never knew I’d be any of this waste. I never knew I could be anyone, anywhere. But if I go backwards would you fall for me? Or if I surrender would you call for me? For by the morning, no one will know. For I’ll be a driftin’ by myself I’m alone.

about

I started thinking about a time when people didn’t know why the moon and the sun danced in the sky. I thought about how beautiful stories must have been in a world without science. I wrote the songs down using voice memos, with the hope to get it all out in one take. I would edit some of the words, but call it quits before thinking on it too much. Waterhole is all written in one take; that was a good night. I’m trying to paint words down, with my subconscious up front.
